2018 Budget

City Welcomes Additional Public Feedback On The 2018 Draft Budget

Citizen engagement in the municipal budgeting process is a challenge across Alberta. To help bridge this gap, the City of Brooks launched the Citizen Budget tool for the 2017 budget and again utilized the online tool for 2018. This tool, which was available for a month this fall, gave residents the opportunity to provide comments and to adjust various service levels and immediately see the impact these adjustments would have on their tax dollars.

This feedback was considered during council’s public budget meeting deliberations, which resulted in the 2018 draft budget.

Residents are now invited to provide additional feedback through a variety of channels, including email, phone or in person (Please see below for contact information). Between January 2 and January 19, the City’s budget document can be found here and paper copies can be picked up at City Hall. Staff will be available to take comments and on January 23, the comments will be presented to Council for consideration.

“The City understands that transparency in municipal government, especially the budget process, is important, which is why we began utilizing Citizen Budget,” says Shelley Thomas, Finance Manager. “We look forward to increasing the number of citizens that are actively engaged in the City’s budget process.”
