City Receives FCM Grant for Infrastructure Master Plans

The City of Brooks is excited to announce that the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) has approved funding for potable water, wastewater and transportation infrastructure master plans in the amount of $50,000. This project allows the City to assess the condition of existing infrastructure systems and create a plan for the most efficient way to maintain, repair or replace City infrastructure.

The funding was approved through the Municipal Asset Management Program (MAMP) which is designed to help Canadian municipalities strengthen infrastructure investment decisions based on sound asset management practices. MAMP is a five-year, $50-million program, delivered by FCM and funded by the Government of Canada.

The updated plans funded by the grant will provide the City with recommended future upgrades, repairs and required maintenance to extend the life of the City’s infrastructure and have a full look at the condition of current infrastructure. These condition assessments and capital recommendations will be used to develop the Asset Management Plan, which will help the City effectively maintain and repair the current systems within the allotted budget.

“The City of Brooks is determined to use public funds efficiently and these Infrastructure Master Plans and our Asset Management Plan will assist the City in attaining that efficiency,” says Joe Thomas, Manager of Planning and Engineering Services.
