Brooks – EcoBrooks will be celebrating Pitch-In Canada Week (April 22-29) by challenging schools within the County of Newell to reduce litter and clean up the region. This year, awards will be based on artistic collaborations for the age categories of Kindergarten to Grade 4, Grade 5 to Grade 8 and Grade 9 to Grade 12.
Students are encouraged to create an anti-littering collaboration of any kind and submit one collaboration per class. Examples of collaborations are paintings, sculptures or any pieces of art. Once submitted, all pieces will be displayed in high traffic areas in Brooks to help educate people about littering. The winning class in each category will receive a classroom resource up to the value of $300. Participating classes that are also involved in the community clean-up will receive a pizza party courtesy of Domino’s Pizza and EcoBrooks. Pitch-In garbage bags are available at City Hall upon request.
Antilittering submissions will be accepted at City Hall until May 12th and the winner will be notified on May 16th.
This program aims to help educate people about the negative effects of littering while encouraging youth in our communities to pitch in with their own cleanups. “Every year we see more volunteers celebrate Pitch-In Canada Week and we hope we can continue having the same success while encouraging our youth to be environmentally responsible. We would also like to thank our sponsor, Domino’s Pizza who help make this program possible.” says Florence Juska, Chair of EcoBrooks.
