Brooks – Newell Proud, a shop local campaign that supports all local businesses and artisans in the Newell Region, announced that, in partnership with the Brooks & District Chamber of Commerce, they are launching a shop local contest from Friday, November 24th to Sunday, December 24th, 2017.
The contest will be held on Facebook and will encourage residents to promote and purchase from local businesses during the holiday season. Canadians spend a large portion of their annual retail shopping budget in December, according to Statistics Canada. “We’re asking community residents to shift their purchases of food, greeting cards, decorations, gifts and other holiday items to local businesses,” said Nova Sekhon, Economic Development Coordinator. Numerous studies show if those dollars are spent locally, they will generate a greater economic benefit in the local region than money spent outside the region.
The contest will consist of five draws; four weekly draws for a chance to win a $50 gift certificate to a local business of choice and a grand prize draw for a chance to win $200 of My Community Cash. "We are really excited about the Newell Proud contest," said President- Elect Sarah Bisbee. “My Community Cash is a fantastic way for residents to stretch their Christmas budget a little bit further, without having to head out of town.”
My Community Cash is a local currency provided by the Brooks & District Chamber of Commerce. It is purchased from the Chamber at 95 cents on the dollar and it can be spent at participating businesses at full face value. Any merchants in Brooks and the County of Newell can participate, regardless of whether they are Chamber member. Please contact the Chamber for additional details and a list of participating businesses.
Follow Newell Proud and the Brooks and District Chamber Of Commerce on Facebook and be sure to look for further contest details on Friday, November 24th, 2017.
