City of Brooks Inclusion Champion Award

What is the Inclusion Champion Award? 

A Welcoming and Inclusive Committee initiative, to recognize and honour those people that help make Brooks and surrounding area a community that people are proud to call home.

Who is eligible for this award?

Any City of Brooks and County of Newell resident.

What are the nomination criteria?

The nominee must have demonstrated a significant contribution toward creating a diverse and inclusive community through the implementation of policies, procedures, initiatives and/or programs in one or more of the following areas:

  • Fostering and promoting equality of opportunity within our City and surrounding area;
  • Encouraging diverse perspectives within our City and surrounding area;
  • Creating a welcoming and supportive community through efforts such as visibility, communication and education; and/or,

Other areas critical to establishing inclusive excellence within the City of Brooks and surrounding area.

How do I nominate someone?

Simply write a one to three page letter on someone that you think is deserving of the award and be sure to include at least one letter of support.

What important details should I include on my nomination letter? 

Your nomination letter should not exceed more than three pages and should include the nominee's name on each page of the letter in the top right corner. Vitaes or resumes may not be submitted in lieu of a nomination letter.

What should I know about letters of support? 

Please submit a minimum of one letter of support. Letter(s) should not exceed two pages each, and should include the nominee's name on each page of the letter in the top right corner. Support letters should include evidence which substantiates the nominee's contributions to one or more of the criteria noted.

What happens if my nominee wins?

They will be awarded a certificate from the City of Brooks and will be invited to a City of Brooks' Council Meeting to receive the award. As the successful recipient, they will also benefit by including the award on resumes or scholarship applications.

When can I apply & when will I know if my nominee is selected?

The City of Brooks' Inclusion Champion Award will be open for nominations on January 1st of every year. The deadline for nominations will be on December 1st of every year. A winner will be selected approximately a month after the deadline of every year, and then announced through City communication channels.

How is a winner selected?

The City of Brooks' Welcoming and Inclusive Committee will review all nominations and objectively select the winning citizen.

City of Brooks Organizational Inclusion Award

What is the Organizational Inclusion Award?

A Welcoming and Inclusive Committee initiative, to recognize and honour those organizations that help make Brooks and the surrounding area a community that people are proud to call home.

Who is eligible for this award? 

Any organization operating within the City of Brooks and County of Newell.

What is the nomination criteria? 

The organization must have demonstrated a significant contribution toward creating a diverse and inclusive community through the implementation of policies, procedures, initiatives and/or programs in one or more of the following areas:

  • Embedding diversity and inclusiveness into a structural/institutional aspect within the City of Brooks and surrounding area;
  • Recruitment and retention of an excellent and diverse faculty, staff or student body;
  • Fostering equality of opportunity within our City and surrounding area;
  • Encouraging diverse perspectives within our City and surrounding area;
  • Creating a welcoming and supportive community through efforts such as visibility, communication and education; and/or,
  • Other areas critical to establishing inclusive excellence within the City of Brooks and surrounding area.
