JBS Canada McKay Park Donation

Brooks JBS Canada 2

Brooks – The City of Brooks recently announced that it will be entering into a partnership with JBS Foods Canada to receive a $475,000 donation. The donation, which come from JBS Foods’ Hometown Strong program, will go towards a revitalization of McKay Park in the City’s south east sector.

The funds will be used to upgrade the park as follows:

  • Expand the playground and install a pour’n’play surface;
  • Install two new basketball courts;
  • Install a mini soccer pitch with goal posts;
  • Add a finished patio area with picnic tables;
  • Install a covered gazebo over part of the patio area; and
  • Upgrade the parks walking paths offering better connectivity.

“JBS Foods Canada is proud to support our team members, their families and our neighbours by upgrading McKay Park — including an expanded playground, a soccer field, basketball court, gazebo and more,” said David Colwell, President, JBS Foods Canada. “Our JBS Hometown Strong program provides meaningful investments to projects that strengthen our community now and in the future.”

As part of the agreement, JBS Foods Canada will receive the naming rights to the park for 25 years.

“The City of Brooks could not be happier about this generous donation that will benefit all of our residents,” said Brooks Mayor John Petrie. “It shows how much JBS Foods Canada genuinely cares about their employees and our City.”

Councillor Mohammed Idriss, who played a key role in coordinating the agreement with JBS Foods Canada, states that “Parks and neighborhood spaces create proud communities. I am very thankful for JBS and their team for working with us to make this a reality. I’m also glad I could bring the voices of many youths and families from this neighborhood.” Council members and staff have received feedback from residents in the McKay Park area and south east sector that additional outdoor recreation amenities were wanted.

City Council included a McKay Park revitalization in the 2021-2025 Strategic Focus Areas. The task falls under the category for improving “Outdoor Experiences” for residents and providing access to outdoor recreation and free activities. Construction is set to begin in the spring of 2023.
