The City is planning to remove trees along 2nd Ave between 1st St W and 3rd St E in preparation for road reconstruction in the area. Unfortunately, the trees can not remain in order to reconstruct the roadway due to the need to excavate and cut the root systems of these trees and ensure proper drainage. The trees are not in the best condition and growing too large, causing surrounding sidewalks and asphalt to lift, which has become a safety issue. The City is planning to have these trees cut in mid-March in preparation for the road reconstruction. Any residents living adjacent to where the construction of the road will take place can have a tree planted on their property at no cost. The Parks department will also be planting two trees for every tree removed throughout the City in various greenspaces.
